Graphics Drivers Crashes on Mission Load. Empty Graphics Drivers Crashes on Mission Load.

When I first tried the alpha, I would get the game loading up the (presumably) first mission - with everything set to defaults - and after sitting on the logo screen with "loading" for some time (15 seconds?) it would drop to desktop.

I assumed this was because it was an alpha version.

Now I'm getting the same behavior with the new version - along with a message that the display driver crashed - NVIDIA V295.73...

Any good things to try? If this is a bug, is there some information I could provide which would help fix it? I'm running Windows 7, relatively vanilla. I've never had any graphics issues with any other program which I know about.

I've had crashes on loading up the first mission, too. It turns out turning down the Graphics helped me with that.

Sorry that this probably will not help you with your technical problems.

Ok, that did help!

Now to figure out what's going on. Turned down ALL options to 1/2, and it worked. Resolution is not it.

I tried changing it on another mission, during play, and it... locked? Got a big window with a white screen. Guess I'll move a few at a time till I figure out what's the issue.

Well, I turned half the items up, it still worked, then I turned (in a mission) another half, still working... Then turned up the last, still working, but at the mission change - crashage.

Still, it seems the bottom half of the options aren't my issue. Pointing to planet/nebula quality and particle count. Could it be some issue of asking for more than my graphics card can support? I'd think that would be handled at the driver level, but I'm no programmer.

Most of the graphics options that could potentially cause crashes will do so at mission load time (when all the procedural textures are being generated). It is more than likely a out of video memory crash, I would recommend keeping planet quality lowish or lowering resolution/anti-aliasing. Also, note that resolution and anti aliasing options require a full restart to take effect.

Thanks for the help Ninja! Smile

Thanks! Just the kind of useful info I was looking for.

Um... I can't find AA settings? You don't mean for me to do it at the driver level, do you?

You should be able to scroll down in the video options, using the mouse wheel, or right stick if you are using gamepad. If you are using a mouse without a wheel, you can use R and F to scroll as well.

Glad I could help!

Also, I find it hilarious that you take into account the chance that someone might possess a mouse without a wheel (good luck finding one of those attached to a PC!) yet have a standard binding on Mouse4, which I am lucky enough to possess, but which is indeed rather rare on standard Mice.

Mouse 4 is just one of the many keys for UI-Back. I did recently change it as the default for Archetype mod, but you would have to go into the options menu to even get to that control mode, so I figured it was OK. Smile

As for the key binds for scroll, they are there just in case. Razz
