Feature Suggestion: Duos that are Proper Hybrids
Firstly, this game is great. It's rare that I (very much into RPG's) can find games to play with my fiancee (who loves twitch/skill/strategy stuff). We are both actually quite amused with this one though. Thank you devs. ~^.^~
Obviously, using the Duo ships is a big part of being able to play together though, and I worry that later on when the proper hybrids (like the C5R Manta, and even more worrisome the tri-archetype hulls like R5FC Aozora Nine) become more viable that we will kinda get left behind. I realize that the Duo hulls are pretty good as is and everything, especially with the copilot's freedom to aim and a decent parts capacity. But, let's face it, can they really stack up in versatility and/or overall power to the tri-archetype hulls or even some of the better two-archetype ones? It wouldn't be very fun to suddenly have to revert to one player again just because a single archetype isn't cutting it any more.
I would like to suggest Duo ships with two archetypes as a potential future addition. There are plenty of people that play a lot in Duo with friends/significant others/etc. I'm sure, so it seems like there would be other people in my boat so to speak. Sorry if this has been covered before, but I didn't see it anywhere after looking through the forum. Thanks again guys for making this quirky game!
Err, I meant to post this in Feedback, oops...

Re: Feature Suggestion: Duos that are Proper Hybrids
Hey Aether,
Glad you guys are enjoying the game together. We are currently working on our next project to get something pitchable together. Once we are done with that we might add a couple new ships to the game. We had planned to make most of them "flavor" hulls. These hulls would be very expensive and meant to be balanced against other rank 5s, but would have a humorous appearance. Some examples would be playing as the hyper messenger (flying mailbox), or has Hapty (the smiley face). If we do add these ships we could perhaps add one or two more duos along with them. Hybrids aren't necessarily stronger than solo archetype hulls though, just offer a different angle on gameplay.

Those flavor hulls sound quite amusing lol
And I think you misunderstood me somewhat. I realize that the multi-archetype ships aren't necessarily more powerful outright. However, they do have the capacity to be more adaptive and mold better to a playstyle. For example, I would love a duo caster/rogue, because it would fit our combined playstyle. And I'm sure there are numerous other duo partners that have a style that fits between the standard archetypes too. If in fact the multi-archetype ships aren't more powerful as you say (which I agree is true) then why would it be so bad to introduce two archetype duos *devil's advocate face*? You already have other two archetype hulls and the existing duos to base them off of, so it shouldn't necessarily be a horrid amount of extra work to come up with (I'd hope at least). Especially since you can only use them for local play as far as I can tell, it wouldn't be devastating to online play.
Also, I may have found a bug. When connecting two Xbox controllers to my computer, even though Ring Runner recognizes both of them, it insists that one of the two players use the keyboard/mouse instead of allowing both players to select controllers.
And thank you for taking the time to respond. It's nice to see devs that really care XD

Most of the time would be spent designing/modeling/texturing the new ship. It doesn't take terribly long, but isn't a trivial amount of work either. Duos can actually be used in online modes.
As for the keyboard bug, the way the second player for the duo is detected is whichever input other than the one that launched into the mission is pressed first, is automatically set as the gunner. If you find that the keyboard and mouse are incorrectly being picked up as the second input, it might be that the mouse sensitivity is too high.

What prevents you from making *every* hull a Duo?
I mean, Duo ships can be flown as a single pilot - so why not fly regular (mono?) hulls as two pilots?
This'll allow two-man players to play every ship, without building ships specifically for them.

It is technically possible, although if you notice, all duo hulls have a gunner model that can rotate separately. This was initially done so that other players in multiplayer could see where the gunner was aiming. Duo hulls are typically larger and have higher mass and capacities to accommodate two players, so the balancing is a bit different as well.
