In game chat

A preemptive question for when the multiplayer demo is released.

Will the game have in game chat? and, if so how will it work?
As well, how will user identification work? would we have to register a user or would we just be able to log in?

Good question. Yes, I just recently added in game chat. There will be team chat, all chat, and private messaging. There is no registration process involved, but you will be asked to give yourself a "gamertag" before entering your first multiplayer match.

These gamertags will not be forced to be unique, since we will not an authentication server.

A couple of things that are slightly different than you might normally expect from in game chat are the following:

Individual messages are forced to be short ~80 characters.
When you press the private message button, a list of players pops up, prioritizing the last person you sent a message and the last person that sent you a message. Clicking a player in the list will initiate sending a private message to that player.

also, will there be any sort of friends list option? always something i like to have in a game

Unfortunately not currently, if we make it to steam, then I can possibly integrate their community features into the game.

i was just curious if there was any stand alone feature you guys had in mind.

but yeah, if steam picks ring runner up then there is no worries on that.
