Was Hammerfight An Influence?
So I've just finished the main campaign, and this is one of those rare gems of a game where I actually want to keep playing the wave-based stuff afterwards. The only other game I can think of where I've done that recently is Hammerfight. Interestingly, both games have 2D physics based vehicular combat, vehicular customisation, magical abilities, wave-based scenarios and an excellently well-written campaign. I mean, the combat is very different, but one important similarity is that you learn the physics and slowly get really tight control over an initially unwieldy vehicle.
Anyway, I was just wondering if Hammerfight was much of an influence on you guys. If not, what were your main influences? Also, are there other games out there like this that I'm totally missing out on?

Firstly, thanks for the kind words.
Neither of us have played Hammerfight, but the game looks like a blast. Ring Runner is sort of a compilation of everything we liked about games growing up. Its initial and perhaps most direct inspiration was actually Silent Death Online. Other strong influences are games like WoW, Might and Magic, RTCW, and basically any game we spent an inordinate amount of time playing.

I'm fairly certain I played the demo of SDO when I was much, much younger. I was reminded of if when I started playing RingRunner, but I couldn't remember what it was called.
Hammerfight isn't as strategically deep as Ring Runner, it's much more about reaction times & skill, but you can almost feel the weight of the vehicle as you swing your mouse. If you do play it, though, the most important thing to tweak is the game's DPI calibration. If it's too high, your vehicle has no speed and then you die sadface.
