"No XNA compatible video device" on GF7700go?!
Specs:
Asus G1 Laptop (used to be a "Gamer Laptop" when it was current)
2GHz Intel Core2 Duo
2GB RAM
nVidia GeForce 7700go, 512MB VRAM
Problem:
When I run the "setup.exe" of the game, it yells at me "No XNA HiDef compatible video device found".
I don't expect the game to run at 200fps and with GF Titan like quallity, obviously performance might be subpar, but I expect the game to run AT ALL.
This is the only game giving me this kind of problems, all other games (incl. recent ones) run decent to even quite good.
So, at the end of this rant, what can be done to make this game run?
I *REALLY* want to play this ;-)

Hey Hellcat and welcome to the forums.
After doing a bit of research it seems that 7700go is unfortunately just barely not compatible with the XNA Hi-def profile.
Here is a list compiled for another game that uses the Hi-def profile. Any card on there that specifies it meets the minimum requirements should be compatible with Ring Runner.

Unfortunately, this is a limitation of the XNA framework and, aside from a complete rework of the game's engine, impossible for me to fix.
I'll look into it a bit more, perhaps there might be a way of suppressing the error.
I truly am sorry, but on the bright side, if you ever upgrade your computer you will have Ring Runner waiting for you.

Sounds like one more reason to NOT use XNA.... I mean, seriously, XNA? For a serious game dev project?
Every other halfway decent engine can trim down things to at least run somehow at all.
IMHO completely locking people outis a no-go.
Well, money wasted and one more dev for the blacklist

Re: "No XNA compatible video device" on GF7700go?!
We started it 5 years ago when Unity wasn't really an option. All our games going forward will likely be using Unity, since it is so much easier to develop with. While XNA is definitely not the best option, it isn't all that bad. Many great games have been made with XNA. Bastion, Terraria, and Rogue Legacy being some famous examples.
Again, I do apologize that it won't install; it is beyond my control. You will no doubt update your system at some point and I sincerely hope you give the game a try.

Yes, eventually I will be able to upgrade my hardware....
And TBH, I will not be able not to try this, as this is exactely the kind of game I am looking for....
Oh well *sniff*
