what is the shop for?

Post  speeder on Thu Sep 19, 2013 11:11 pm

I am playing the campaign, sometimes fighting with the controls... (in fact, most of the time I am fighting the controls)

I unlocked the shop already and... there is nothing to buy, and the research thing, I spent all my plex to upgrade the lab.

What is the shop for? It is a multiplayer only thing? Or it affects campaign too?

You know about the "Customization" thing that's kind of like a big thing after the first Galaxy? Yeah, that's running via the Shop. You'll be unlocking and buying stuff that you put into your ship later. The game will introduce you to it once you finish the first Galaxy.

Oh nice.

I hope it is soon... because the game although has a interesting plot (although sorry, but it is obvious that the authors are amateurs), it has the pacing of Final Fantasy XIII (and this is NOT a good thing).

You DO know that the devs have received this sort of feedback before, and have not only cut down parts of the intro but also added an option to skip the Intro Galaxy?

Anyway, you should know that you'll be given a turn with each Archetype, Caster being the last of them, and that the local story will come to a round conclusion and you won't leave with any unfinished business. Depending on where you are that should tell you how much is left.

I think I am on the last level.

Or something like that. (ie: I am using caster in a huge battle, that I lost after almost winning because somehow suddenly 9 AI ships managed to catch up to me and fire at the same time Sad entire HP went to zero in one shot!).

I liked testing all the archetypes, but it has some issues, one that it does not explain well how they work, and second, it still manages to take too long.

For example, I still don't figured that the shield usually bound to "Q" (usually in the A archetype) do.

Also the repulsor on the grabber ships was never explained either even that it exists, I found out that spamming Q sometimes repulsed things, but seemly do no damage and is not much useful except to prevent enemy from hitting you with melee.

The best archetype explaining so far has been the caster, where it tell you what everything does exactly (and it made a HUGE difference, when I remembered the tutorial specifically mentioned you can push away your Right Mouse projectile with the Newton thing, I could kill cruisers like there is no tomorrow by spamming this combo on them).

Also, it took my a while to understand what the mouse flick thing was, and I never use it, because it never do what I want (I did noticed it was intended to me flick toward where I want to go, but it rarely works properly, and killed me a couple times smashing me against a wall before I gave up on it).

Making a "intro skip" option do not help the pacing, it makes it worse, because then you will be dumped into the game not understanding much (the game has no manual, and in-game explanations mostly suck), what is needed seriously is not just cut content, it is carefully study what needs to be taught, and teach it properly, and then remove what is not needed, you will notice that doing this will improve things greatly.

I think I know what your problem is. You haven't been looking at your Bindings.

Hit escape, check bindings. It'll tell you all active and passive abilities of your ship, and will give more info if you right-click on them. You should do that with literally every single hull you use that you didn't make yourself.

And no, if you're in the final massive fight, there are still about three missions to go from there. You can't leave without yer Anchor Drive.

And the only time I had difficulties with my Archetype abilities was when I had my mousepad enabled and my palm was messing up my cursor. I don't have problems with my Archetype abilities any more.
I use Mouse/Direct, and while I agree that it's damn difficult to get the targeting right on fast ships that work in close quarters, it'll be easier for ships with missiles and railguns. So for Grapplers and fighters, you're probably better off with a Controller. Paul and Aratex use controllers, and fighting them is bloody annoying.

I tought so...

I am playing with Keyboard Sad

My mouse is too unreliable, I could not pass the first turret mission with it, I kept dieing pretty fast (then I switched to keyboard and got all bonuses).

I made a question elsewhere about why my joystick don't work, I would appreciate if someone answer it Smile

Also... the game seriously need to tell you to right click on things! It did tell about bindings, but then I went to that screen, and saw fancy names bound to buttons, and wondered: "so what?"

Watch moar videos. It's all there on Youtube! Very Happy

Right-clicking is part of the essence of this game. And in case you're wondering, yes, I do keep my hardest-hitting attacks bound to the right mouse button (with the faster attacks bound to the left mouse button)
