DUO Multiplayer

Post  TeHWooF on Mon Sep 02, 2013 2:38 pm

Hey all,

Enjoying the game a lot so far. Was really looking forward to the prospect of playing a DUO with a friend via the internet. We couldn't quite figure out how to get in another player's ship, though.

I started looking around for answers and found out that it's a local only feature. Perhaps it's an idea to allow people to join a DUO ship via the internet as well? That would be amazing.

I'm not a coder or developer but I'm pretty sure this would cause issues and would be relatively hard to implement.

For example you are playing with your friend as the gunner and his internet drops out. You are now suddenly flying a brick with engines.
If you want to play SP with a friend that would probably require quite a bit of coding and tinkering to implement and probably wouldn't be very practical. And in MP it would probably require some effort possibly quite a bit to get it working.

Right now getting MOBA mode out will be prioritized so even if this is possible I wouldn't expect it to be done soon.

But that isn't such a bad decision because more interesting things can be made using the same time that it would take to implement using duo ships online.

Hey TeHWooF and welcome to the forums,

Glad you are enjoying the game! Smile

Unfortunately enabling a Duo ship to be piloted by two non local players would require an entire rework of the system, as well as special match joining logic. Neutral

Hey Paul,

I am part of a group of friends who doesn't often see each other in real life, so I was really looking forward to the DUOs. Of course, I do understand it would require (quite) a bit of reworking and would agree with you if you're going to focus on other important parts of the game first.

When you've got the time to implement it though, perhaps it would be a good idea. I don't believe I am the only person who doesn't have gamer friends living near him and/or have any controllers.

Keep up the good work.

Duos are a little tricky in my opinion, but they do have a lot of power to them. What i'd mostly like to see though is a way to turn the 2 player action on it on and off, like If your alone, you can turn off the 2nd player mechanics so the ship will turn and twist as one for player one, and so that you don't have a dotted line that isn't being used. When I use a ship, I kinda expect it to turn entirely with me when its just me flying the ship.

You can still play all the online multiplayer modes with your friends, just need to fly in different ships. Smile

Not showing the second aim line unless the second player is active is a good idea, I'll see if I can swing it.
Other than that, Duos can be played by a single player if you choose to. Just don't bind any abilities to player two and it is basically like flying a normal ship, albeit a slower, larger one. Smile

yeah, when I was at my friends place, I originally started playing with the Duos, Mont Azul and Wolf Angel were fun...but then I noticed the Mont Azul's top capsule wouldn't turn with the ship when I turned it, and the Wolf Angel's upper torso wouldn't turn either. It was kind of...interesting and confusing at the same time.

Yep, Duo's all have a separate piece that rotates along with player two's aim, I suppose I can try and make it rotate along with player one if no second player is found.

Please do. Wink

There is something disturbing about flying the human shaped duo and only being able to turn its legs. XD
